NES AIM Academy re-launches PRINCE2 Workshops in line with the OGC Refresh

The Office of Government Commence has undertaken a major review to refresh the PRINCE2 project management methodology and manual. PRINCE2 2009 will be launched by the OGC at the Cavendish Rooms in London on 16th June.

NES AIM Academy has been closely involved in progress updates with the APM Group and OGC and would like to take this opportunity to clarify what the refresh will mean for its clients, past delegates and individuals who are interested in attending our workshops in the future.

Organisations who currently adopt the PRINCE2 methodology and PRINCE2 practitioners can be assured that PRINCE2 2009 is an evolution of previous versions of the method and will not result in sweeping changes. The core principles remain the same and PRINCE2 is evolving to reflect the latest developments in the project management arena rather than changing radically. All existing qualifications will remain valid and examinations will remain similar in format.

Further information on the route to qualifications and examination structure and format can be found on our FAQ’s.

The key differences that organisations will notice is that the 2009 version will be based on two manuals:

  • Managing Projects Using PRINCE2 on which the new Foundation and Practitioner qualification will be based
  • Directing Projects Using PRINCE2.

Having had advance sight of the new manual, NES AIM Academy can confirm that the layout of the Managing Projects Using PRINCE2 manual makes it easier to reference and understand.
PRINCE2 2009 is based on:

  • 7 Guiding Principles:
    • Continued business justification
    • Learn from experience
    • Defined roles and responsibilities
    • Manage by stages
    • Manage by exception
    • Focus on products
    • Tailor to suit the project environment
  • 7 Themes:
    • Business Case
    • Organisation
    • Quality
    • Plans
    • Risk
    • Change
    • Progress
  • 7 Processes:
    • Starting Up a Project
    • Initiating a Project
    • Directing a Project
    • Managing a Stage Boundary
    • Controlling a Stage
    • Managing Project Delivery
    • Closing a Project

None of the above will appear radical to anyone who has previously attended an NES AIM Academy workshop, where a realistic and pragmatic approach has always been expounded by our experienced workshop facilitators.

How has NES AIM Academy implemented the changes?

As one of the first providers of PRINCE2 training, NES AIM Academy has taken this opportunity to completely refresh its workshop materials to build on the improvements in PRINCE2 and its experience of delivering high quality workshops since 2000.

Our approach now offers a Foundation Level Workshop over three days and a Practitioner Conversion over two days.

Both workshops are highly interactive, not only providing delegates with the best chance of examination success, but also engaging in the practical application of the methodology, a key success criteria for all best practice organisations.

Our Foundation Workshop explores all aspects of the PRINCE2 syllabus, giving delegates a full understanding of the principles, themes and processes.

The Practitioner Workshop is run over a full two days allowing ample discussion of the practical reality of applying PRINCE2 in the workplace, highlighting how challenges can be overcome and benefits of the methodology realised.
